Alliance Garners Prestigious Award

In only its fifth year of existence, the South Llano Watershed Alliance and its members recently took another major step forward in its efforts to preserve and enhance local water resources.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department named the Alliance the winner of the 2013 Lone Star Land Steward Award for the Landowner Association category. For the past 18 years, the Department’s Landowners Recognition Program has honored those individuals and organizations that have demonstrated dedicated stewardship of the land through habitat management and wildlife conservation.

Past winners of this award include: the Edwards Plateau Prescribed Burning Association; Selah, Bamberger Ranch Preserve; and Llano Springs Ranch.

The Alliance was nominated for this award based on their partnership efforts related to the Oasis Pipeline Wildfire Recovery Workshop, Elephant Ear Eradication, Guadalupe Bass Restoration Initiative, and South Llano Paddling Trail.

The Alliance and other Land Steward Award winners will be honored at a reception at the Hyatt Regency in Austin on May 21st. Former First Lady Laura Bush will be the keynote speaker at the event.

To celebrate this exciting news with members and the community, the Alliance will host a Membership Meeting and Water Conservation Workshop on Saturday, April 20th at the Tech Center in Junction. A free lunch will be provided.

If you plan to attend this celebration and workshop, please RSVP at southllanoriver@gmail.com. The public is welcome.
