Land, Water, Fire Conference
Welcome visitors to your site with a short, engaging introduction. Double click to edit and add your own text.
Hosted by the Llano River Watershed Alliance in collaboration with La Cuna Center, After the Rain: Land and Water Conference brings together land stewards, scientists, artists, and community members to explore land management practices that foster both flood and drought resilience in the Texas Hill Country. Held at the Castell General Store, this half-day gathering pairs practical insight on water quality, prairie restoration, and prescribed fire. Through expert talks, hands-on learning, and a shared lunch, the event invites participants to consider how thoughtful land care—rooted in ecology, ethics, and creativity—can help communities better adapt to the region’s increasingly extreme climate cycles.
Sessions:
Steve Nelle - An Ethic of Care
Michelle Bertelsen (Blackland Collaborative) - Land Management for Water Quality
Brian Wright (Central Basin Prescribed Fire Association) - Benefits of Prescribed Fire
Carol Flueckiger (Faculty, Texas Tech) - Prairie Plants Art Workshop
During lunch, the gallery next door will be open for curator-led tours of the exhibition, After the Rain, which translates these complex issues into visible, legible forms.
